Covenant House honors its real estate heroes

Nearly 900 professionals from the real estate and construction industries gathered on May 12th at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square for the 18th Annual Lifeline Dinner to benefit Covenant House New York. The dinner raised more than $550,000 for the youths at Covenant House New York.

The organization works with at-risk, runaway and homeless young people, aged 18 to 21, offering services such as residential shelter, counseling, job training, educational assistance and mentoring.

"Each year the real estate and construction industries gather together to hold a dinner on behalf of Covenant House. The 18th year was a wonderful success," said Bruce Henry, executive director of Covenant House New York. "These great people not only oversee this event, they provide jobs and act as mentors to the kids. The Lifeline committee is the reason that thousands of kids continue to be helped by Covenant House."

Bart McDade, vice president/ director of operations for Grubb & Ellis Management Services, Inc., was honored at the dinner for his continued support and dedication to the organization. More than 20 years ago, Mr. McDade and his wife, Margaret, began donating to Covenant House. McDade also served as a Lifeline committee member until recently. To date, McDade has helped the Lifeline Dinner raise over $10 million for the organization.

"It was a privilege to be the honoree of this event," said McDade of the honor. "I was very flattered by the amount of people that came to the dinner and the overwhelming support given to Covenant House. Covenant House is such a special organization for helping those less fortunate."

A Humanitarian Award was also presented to Joseph K. Collins, president of Collins Building Services, Inc., a janitorial company. Mr. Collins has been involved with the Lifeline Dinner since its beginning and has been a member of the committee since the early 1980s.

The Lifeline Dinner is sponsored and run by a committee from the real estate and construction industries in the metropolitan New York area. Mr. John Griffin, cochairman, along with 30 individuals with the real estate industry began the event in 1988. Over the past 16 years, the Dinner has honored individuals who were leaders within their fields and have contributed financial and emotional support to Covenant House New York. In 2002, the Lifeline committee created the Humanitarian Award. This award honors those who have consistently contributed to Covenant House by raising money, dedicating time and inviting individuals within the real estate field to the event in order to generate support.
